Martyn's complaint against Engine Engineering
Delivered wrong engine and refused to cancel order and reimburse.
Complaint against Engine Engineering
At the end of January I ordered a reconditioned engine for my Volvo V50 from Engine Engineering. I paid for the engine directly from my bank account to the company, including a deposit on my old engine to be reimbursed when they collected it at the delivery of my new engine. They stated that they had the said engine in in stock and that delivery would be 3-5 days. After two weeks I rang to cancel the order and ask for my money back, only to be told that the engine had been sent the day before and I could not cancel. This was not true as I tracked the pick up time from the delivery company. As I had done some internet research, I was now expecting the wrong engine to be delivered. When the engine arrived, after I had cancelled it, it was in deed the wrong engine. I asked EE to collect their engine and did not send mine back. I stated my consumer rights and asked for a full refund. I wrote a letter by recorded delivery, which was received and signed for, asking for repayment within 14 days. I rang most days and was always told the boss was out, or the office could not talk to the finance department. Eventually after 14 days, I established that they had no dispute resolution service and so the only avenue open to me was the small claims court in Scotland. I was in touch with trading standards through out and followed their procedures. The police have advised that they have over 300 cases like mine with reference to EE and that very few people have been successful at small claims because of the way EE have registered themselves. I have been caught out. I hope my story acts as a warning to others. I am still £1800 out of pocket, like many others.
