The most expensive cars to insure in the UK

The costliest cars to insure include Mercedes, BMW and Porches.

The most expensive car to insure is a Mercedes-Benz, according to research conducted by the Group Rating Panel, which is part of the Association of British Insurers, and the Lloyds Market Association.

Unsurprisingly, the most expensive cars to insure are luxury vehicles. This is because of the high purchase price, but also because they contain lots of specialist gadgets and parts that are difficult to replace or repair following an accident.

What are the ten most expensive cars to insure?

1) Mercedes AMG GT Roadster

This Mercedes reaches a top speed of 196mph and it costs approximately £140,000 to purchase new. It is one of the most expensive cars to insure because of this.

2) BMW 7-Series

This car has been in manufacturing since approximately 1977. However, this latest version of the car comes with lots of new gadgets, which hike up the insurance premium. The car was launched in 2015.

3) Porches Panamera Sport Turismo

This is Porsche’s first ever estate car. Many people think this is more practical than the company’s preceding two-seater models. However, this is another costly car to insure.

4) Audi RS7 Sportback

It’s this car’s engine that puts it in the most expensive list. It has a twin-turbocharged 4.0 litre V8 engine, which is very powerful, but costly.

5) Lexus LS

The Lexus LS was first introduced in 1989 as a luxury sedan. This car is now on its fifth generation and the Soloon and Coupé models both make it on to the most expensive list.

6) Tesla Model X SUV

This seven-seater all-electric SUV by Tesla is one of the most innovative cars on the market. It also comes with gullwing doors that make it look even more futuristic. However, because of all that innovation, this car is very costly to find a policy for.

7) Porsche Cayenne Turbo

Yet another Porsche car in the most expensive list, the Cayenne’s 4.8 litre turbo models require commitment where insurance is concerned.  The SUV-style Cayenne is actually the largest car made by Porsche, and prices begin at £89,000.

8) Audi R8 Spyder

Many motorists love this car due to its huge engine and the effortless acceleration it achieves, reaching a top speed of 194mph. It also comes with sizeable running costs. All this helps to bring it on to the list.

9) Jaguar F-Type Convertible

This car has a 5 litre V8 engine and goes up to a top speed of 195mph. Therefore it’s hardly surprising that the F-Type also entails an expensive insurance policy. Added to the other factors, this model is also a convertible. This adds to the premium as it compromises the safety of the car.

10) Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR

This has been advertised as ‘the fastest, most powerful Range Rover ever’. It cost around £194,000 new on its release and so its insurance cover has to rise to match.
