Complaint about DriveNow

I started as a trainee bus driver on March 2014. Therefore, when I passed the practical exam in May 2014, the company that trained me sent my driving licence together with my passed passenger carrying vehicle certificate to the DVLA in exchange for a bus driving licence. On June 2014 I received category “D” licence from the DVLA which I am using up to date . To my surprised on April 2015, I received invoice letter from DriveNow (a car hire company) that I should pay the amount of £1677.93 for the car I rented from them in January 2015 for a period of 4 days. I was shocked because I never rent any car all my life I got my own private car. I called the Police on that day to report the case to them, they gave me a reference number and also advised me to call Action fraud which I did, and I received a reference number from them too. Action fraud said I should call the company to give them the reference number and explained to the them about my innocent. But instead of investigating it, they chose to handle over the case to the CCI (Credit Management Ltd). I received a letter from them threatening me to pay up the money on they will seek their client’s authority to issue legal proceedings against me. When I demanded for the documents which they used for renting the said car, a copy of my old driving licence was sent to me. I told them that the copy of the licence which they sent to me was invalid and it has been returned to the DVLA since 2014 and the car was hired in 2015. Since the lawyer who I contacted to help me out to clear my name was asking for more money all the time, I decided to seek for your advised based on the similar article of “Car rental Enterprise” which I read on SUN newspaper of August 26, 2016 page 13. I am very disturbed I don’t know what to do and who to help me out. I even wrote a letter to the Financial Ombudsman Service, they said DriveNow is not regulated by them. All my plead to them to investigate it with the help of their CCTV proof abortive all what they want is that I should pay for the offence which I did not committed. Please help.
