Complaint about Goldcar
Hi. I went to Spain last month. Booked / Pre Paid for a car with Gold Car. Bought insurance from Car Access Hire as it was a lot cheaper than Gold Car. So i arrived at Alicante Airport with all my documents and credit card / debit cards. I knew i had to pay for petrol and have the refundable holding deposit as i wasn't paying for their insurance. I had £1700 on my credit card and £1500 on my debit card. They attempted 3 times on my credit card for the refundable deposit, and told me my card was blocked, then tried my debit card once, it didnt work. So i did said well try the lower amount, but it still didn't work. I phoned my bank thinking i dont want my bank card to be blocked aswell but they informed me that no transactions was attempted on either card and neither card was blocked. I said to them it must be your machine not working. So he put my debit card in another machine, it funnily enough went through, BUT for the insurance amount. He knew i had insurance already, and he didnt ask which amount i wanted, he was very aggressive and uphelpful and wouldnt refund me the insurance amount and put the refundable deposit on instead. By then 40 minutes went by and i gave up, he asked me to sign his machine for my card, which now i know was actually their terms and conditions. Since then Goldcar have been very slow in responding to my emails and very unhelpful. They said there is nothing i can do as i signed their T&C's. I wont be using them again thats for sure.
