Entertainment Licence Burns Hotel York

Complaint about Sam Smith's

I was enjoying a pint of cider at the Burns Hotel in York, waiting for some friends to meet at this pub. I was sitting alone at a table and there were no other customers next to me. To cut time short while waiting for my friends I had a look at a video clip on my phone sent from my brother from my home country. Sadly the clip was in my native language and the manageress who cleared the glasses from the tables must have heard that and probably was disappointed that she didn't understand the language. She stormed up to me and said that she had no entertainment licence and that I am not allowed to do this in her pub. I am not aware that watching a short video clip has anything to do with breaking the law. I said that I don't entertain anybody because I was sitting alone at the table. I also said that she didn't entertain me with her comment. Maybe she didn't like my face or my accent? I felt very unwelcome after that, finished my drink and left the pub. In future I will have my meetings in another establishment. I suggest to all Sam Smith pubs that the manager collects all mobile phones on entry from their customers that they don't break the entertainment licence. I would like to have an answer to this from the persons who train managers at Sam Smith.
