Complaint about Xercise4Less

I telephoned the Renfrew branch where I am a member to freeze my membership as I was having to undertake surgery to my foot. I had not been attending the gym for several months due to foot pain and since I was now having to have surgery I felt that it would be more practical to freeze my membership instead of cancelling it. I was advised that I would have to obtain a letter from my doctor something of which I am unable to do as I am receiving treatment privately and a letter would have led to further expense. I stated that I wished then to cancel my membership as I had been paying my membership for several months without using the gym. The person was very unhelpful and basically disinterested that they would loss a customer. I was advised that I should go on to the website and scroll to the foot of the page and was given my membership number to cancel. I attempted to cancel my membership before leaving work on my i phone which I was unable to access. As I knew that my surgery would me imminent and that I would be unable to drive and on crutches for 4 weeks, on the way home I visited my bank and cancelled my direct debit. I then accessed the website from home and cancelled my membership and found that I would have to give 30 days’ notice. At no point was this explained to me on the telephone or I would not have cancelled my direct debit. I explained on the note field the situation when submitting my cancellation about my surgery. To my horror, I then received texts from Harlands demanding payment. On calling them I was horrified to find that I also had an administration fee. I was advised to call the Renfrew Branch again and speak with the general manager. I contacted the branch and left a message and I am still waiting on a call back. I have since received further letters from Harlands and texts demanding payment. During this time, I have emailed their head office twice, spoken to the head office and contacted Harlands. I am now being called, texted and emailed from a debt collection company called CRS with threatening demands and escalating fees for goodness knows what, despite all my attempts to resolve this. Xercise4less have ignored my most recent communication to them. CRS are now wanting £171. I find the whole situation very distressing as I am now due for further surgery.
