Complaint about Xercise4Less

I signed up to Xercise4less at the Hunts Cross branch in Liverpool on a 12 month contract, January 2016. In On 16 December 2016 I called in to cancel my membership and was told to do it through their online cancellation system. I paid my last direct debit on December16th 2016 as requested and per my contract. I then cancelled my direct debit with them as in the twelve months I had only used the gym once. I am now getting letters from HARLANDS on the gyms behalf saying I owe them £25.00 admin fee, plus two months membership!!!! I tried ringing them as the letter requested but after being on hold for over 10 minutes everyday for 6 days, finally I spoke with someone who said I should write tohead office and she would email me the address --- it never came. I couldn't afford to keep phoneing so I emailed the company and told them I had followed all necessary steps to cancel correctly, which they replied to, refusing to ring me because it's 'company policy' I called the gym who said the company regularly gets the facts incorrect and they would email them to inform them I have cancelled correctly (they also informed me the Xercise4less cancellation process had been down over christmas and not worked properly!!!!!). I then got another letter from HARLANDS saying me fee was now £35.00 for not contacting them, after I had a response from them via email!!!! They also state in the letter they will re-open my direct debit and move the charge up to £50!!! The staff at my local branch have informed me they are wrong and I shouldn't be charged anything, but want to charge me because I cancelled my own direct debit. I have spoken with my bank who have sternly told me that after a final direct debit is made I am more than in my right to cancel a direct debit as I no longer have any agreement with the company and my membership is paid off. I am sick of coming home to threatening letters, trying to take my hard earned wage when I've done nothing wrong and followed all necessary steps to cancel correctly. I wish I had never signed up as all they have done is make the last couple of months miserable for me. Do you have any suggestions or similar issues with this company and their poor service and communication? Thank You
