Threatening letters regarding cancelled membership

Complaint about Xercise4Less

I joined xercise4less in Newcastle when it first opened about 4 years or so ago, last year after enquiringly about my son joining I decided to cancel my membership, the member of staff that I spoke to face to face told me that he would cancel my membership as requested, now 5 months later I have received a letter from Harlands stating they couldn't collect my direct debit, I phoned the number and explained that my membership is cancelled and they said I'd have to contact the gym which I have done, several times by phone and a manager so far has failed to call me back, I've contacted them via email too and have only had 1 reply which was of no help at all. I have been told by harlands that if the direct debit is not reinstated then I will incur a further £25 charge on top of the existing £35 charge already in place! The gym itself is ignoring me every time I call or email and Harlands insist that it is the gym I need to speak to. Every time I call the gym I'm told that the manager is on 'lunch break' no matter what time of day it is. I find this very unprofessional and no way to treat any customer.
