Absolute rip-off!

Complaint about EHIC Direct

Can't believe I fell for this - obviously designed to dupe busy people who miss the small print into paying £34.50 for something which they could easily get for free on the official Government site. The text on their website which appears at the point the fee is revealed: "In January 2016 the NHS changed the way that applications are processed. There is now a registration process in place when making an application" implies that the fee is imposed by the NHS, rather than for an additional "checking" service as claimed elsewhere on the company's site. I realised what had happened almost immediately afterwards but couldn't cancel as there was a lengthy queue to speak to someone (on a premium rate phone number, of course) and the e-mail confirmation came from a "noreply" address. Money down the drain.
