Tricked into paying for a free service

Complaint about EHIC Direct

Last night I got really worried as I'm travelling to France today and felt an infection coming on and realised my E111 card had expired. So I searched online for where to renew my card and this website was the one that kept coming up on search engines. So I went through to renew my card on what I thought was an official government website, put in a lot of my personal details and then had to pay £34.50. Today I have found out that this is actually a free service provided by the NHS which I should not have been charged for! I am absolutely shocked that such a company exists without making it very clear that you are not the official site and there is a free way to complete this process. I expect a full refund (without having an administration fee applied) and my details to be deleted from your system immediately. If I do not get a response very soon my bank will be disputing the transaction with you and I will be getting advice from trading standards.
