Complaint about Hotpoint

My 79 year old friend bought a hotpoint dryer in December 2014. Despite registering the product when purchased she wasn't informed until recently that there was a problem - apparently it is one of the faulty ones which can catch fire. Despite repeated calls by both of us we are no further forward resolving it for her. When I phoned yesterday I got a message saying I was 32nd in the queue, expected wait time 47 minutes. I decided to hang on and reached no.1 in the queue before the call was cut off! I called again today and was told it would be repaired foc or she could replace for £99 from a choice of machines and they would email a link to me. I am still waiting. My friend is 80 next month, and vulnerable, she has a dryer she can't use and cannot afford £99. What can I do to help her? How long will she have to wait? Thanks
