Return and refund of faulty brand new Hotpoint gas hob

Complaint about Currys PC World

We ordered 3 large appliances from Currys last week. Products were delivered within 2 days. So far so good. Our installer tried to install the Hotpoint gas hob 3 days following the delivery...but found a fault. Only one burner was working. The 3 other burners light off as soon as we leave the knobs. I tried to call their number but switchboard does everything to send me to Hotpoint directly.. Finally Hotpoint gives me a trick to go past the switchboard to speak to someone at Currys. And when I do, the guy on the other line seems ok although he puts me an incredible amount of time on hold. They refuse to do a normal return/refund. They want to send a Hotpoint engineer to see the fault and repair it. I told them I don't want a repair as the product is brand new and I lost my confidence in the brand and would rather buy another brand. Moreover their website states we can get a refund/return within 30 days... Engineer can be booked in only the following week. Plus I need to wait another 5 working days to get refund and sort out a new hob... I am hob less for at least 2 weeks now, with a family to feed at home! When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told he was in a meeting.... I am extremely disappointed and feel cornered by this company. I don't know what to do. Thanks Regards

Hi Josseline, Thanks for getting in touch. I am sorry your hob has developed a fault so soon from purchase. Whilst you certainly do not have to accept a repair on the product given its age, we do need to confirm the fault via an engineer visit before an exchange or refund can take place. My apologies. Has such a visit now been organised can I ask? - Marcus
