Complaint against DPD

I was informed by Email that my goods would be delivered between such and such times so I waited in. Just before 1700 I noticed an Email from DPD saying, "Sorry we missed you." It stated that no one was in to take delivery and that the driver had left a note. Neither of these statements were true. I rang the depot but could not get through to a human and the options offered did not include an alternative delivery. I later ascertained that an upgrade for delivery date would incur a cost. What sort of company is this? I have Emailed DPD to register my complaint and also informed the seller of my goods. I am not holding my breath but am disgusted to have been treated in this underhand way.
