Lack of wheelchair access to Carvery Counter
Complaint against Toby Carvery
My wheelchair bound sister aged 83 decided to treat my wife, a friend and I to a Carvery Lunch at The Toby Carvery, Bishopstoke, Hampshire, on 15th October 2015. She was looking forward to it. On arriving at the venue we were dismayed to find that there was no wheelchair access to the Carvery Counter, which was situated at a higher level accessed by approximately four separate stairways. We were told by members of staff that there was no other means of access without using the stairways. My sister is an independent person and wished to choose the contents of her meal, directly from the Carvery Counter. Unable to do this, we all left.I emailed both the Carvery directly using Toby Complaint Pro-forma and Toby's CEO on 18th October 2015 but have not received the courtesy of an acknowledgement. For the small relatively small cost of installing a mini wheelchair lift or a ramp this inconvenience and embarrassment could have been avoided and my sister would not have felt like a second class citizen. The wasted trip involved travelling about 10 miles. If wheelchair users are denied access to the Carvery Counter, then Toby should make that perfectly clear in their publicity, after all people go to a Carvery to serve themselves.
