Complaint against Economy Energy

When I signed up on an Economy Energy Direct debit contract enonomy energy take the first two payments within days from my bank saying I gad to pay for the energy in advance. D uring the year they increased my DD payments this has resulted in a considerable overpayment. When I left at the end of the 12 month contract they now tell me it will take up to 8 weeks to produce a final bill so that they can proces the refund. Why does it take them 8 weeks to produce a final bill, this seems to me to be a ploy to hang on to my money for as long as possible. These kinds of actions should be criminalised. After my experience I would not advise anybody to deal with Economy Energy.

Hi Andrew, I am sorry for the frustration caused here. It is correct that a final bill can take up to 8 weeks. The reason for this is that we first have to wait for your new supplier to send us their opening meter reading with them. This serves as the final meter reading with ourselves to ensure there are no gaps or overlaps in charges between suppliers. ^Phil

I do not believe it will take that long for my new suplier to give you the meter readings. If that ais all thats stopping you I can give you them today.

I do apologise Andrew, unfortunately this is the time frame for these to be generated. We wouldn't be able to take the readings from yourself as these would need to be sent through the industry. ^Kara

I have this morning checked with my new supplier about when they would send you the their opening meter readings. They have confirmed to me that the meter readings are allways uploaded to the industry database at the time of the swap, so they have been available to yourselves for a month. Therefore Phil was lying when he said you have to wait for my old supplier to send their opening readings.

Sorry about that Andrew, unfortunately the time scale advised is correct. ^Kara

So it is simply a ploy to hang on to the excess money you took from my account for as long as possible. In my opinion practices like these should be made a criminal offence.

I understand your frustration but it is typical that on switching suppliers, a final bill can take up to 6-8 weeks. The readings are passed through the industry and, once they forward these to us, we will issue final bills to you. Please be assured you will only be charged for the energy you use up until your switch date. ^Phil

Andrew Barton | | VERIFIED

I realise you will not charge me for energy I use after the switch date. My concern is that you have taken more from my account than was necessary and you are refusing to return it to me in a timely manner. My meter readings are available to you NOW from the industry database, in my previous experience a refund like this has taken only 10 days. My advice to others is to avoid Economy Energy

It gets worse, so we are now looking at a 10 week wait for the money you have taken from my account in excees of my energy useage to be returned to me. Deliberatly witholding repayments due to your customers should be made a criminal offence. Economy Energy's policies and actions in these circumstances ar truly deplorable. My advice to others is to avoid Economy Energy at all costs

I'm sorry you feel this way, unfortunately this is the process that we follow and is the time frame for this. Once your bills have been generated we will be able to request a refund for any credit on your account. ^Kara

About 10 weeks after you last supplied any power, and thats IF you keep to these stated timescales. Economy Energy's policies and actions in these circumstances ar truly deplorable. My advice to others is to avoid Economy Energy at all costs

On the basis that it is Economy Energy's policy to hold onto their clients money for 10 weeks after they leave, I can only advise others to avoid Economy Energy at all costs

Economy Energy stopped supplying me with power on 15th August 2018. I have been in contact a number of times regarding the repayment of the credit on the account and their operatives insist they did not have the final reads from my meter, they also said it would take 6 to 8 weeks to prepare the final bill, they have said they have not been 'sent them' by my new supplier. When I contacted my new s
