Complaint against Xercise4Less

I went into the gym to cancel my membership after almost 18 months, had no previous problems with the club, the girl i spoke to said as i was outwith my 12mth contract I could just cancel my direct debit and that would be that. So i went ahead and done that. Then received a letter from harlands saying i missed a months payment and was being charged £25. I then spoke to someone on twitter about it and told me I am not allowed to cancel direct debit and that a general manager would email me in next 24hrs. This did not happen so messaged them again and told them I think its unfair your employee tells me to do something then im being charged £25 plus months membership then extra £25 charge if i dont pay debt off by a certain date. They said theres a online cancellation form only then to find out its another 30-day which means another payment that will be missed and more £25 charges that i cant afford as I dont work. Messaged them again demanding something be done as I dont feel I should pay but shock they haven't replied!

I have done that numerous times already before posting this complaint and getting nowhere. Il happily pay the £20 for the 2 mths missed but i dont think i should be the late charges when it isnt my fault your employee told me to cancel my direct debit
