Cancelling my mebership

Complaint against Xercise4Less

I spoke to reception re cancelling my membership and asked if should put in writing , I was advised that would be fine , I returned the next day and gave letter in giving 3 months notice . I was advised this would be passed to manager and any problems the manager would contact me, At no time was I advised it was to be done online , I at time did not have access to internet due to a flood in my house and having to leave my property. I had explained my situation regarding this as well . After the 3 months money was still being debited so I sent an email advising I would be cancelling my direct debit as I had written in and no response although the emails I normally receive from excerise4less had stopped, therefore I presumed that the membership had been cancelled . then received a txt saying I had been sent a letter form debt agency which I had never received. I rang the number and was told by a very cocky man that I owed money, I had not read my terms and conditions therefore my fault and basically I have to pay. I explained I had never been advised but he was not interested in listening , I explained I had sent a back up email and he basically told me I was a liar even tho I have a copy of email. I said I would get legal advise as clearly had been given wrong info and he said ok then call us back and you will still have to pay. I haven’t attended the gym since may. I can’t afford the fine and really don’t know where I stand as I was advised what I’d done was fine by a member of staff :(
