Complaint against EHIC Direct
I wished to renew my European Health Insurance Card as I had failed to realise that it expired last year and that I am due to travel in a few days. I logged on to the website and clicked on EHIC Direct and filled in their online application. When a request for my credit card details came up I thought that it was now necessary to pay for the card. I filled in my card details and expected, as is usual, that I would have a chance to review the transaction and fee before accepting it. But no - the transaction was completed immediately - in fact, like lightening! I then realised that I could apply for the card without incurring any fee! I feel so annoyed that companies like this are allowed to operate, extracting money from the public in this underhand and despicable manner. I contacted my credit card company to attempt to stop the transaction but was told that this was not possible. It is a Bank Holiday weekend and as EHIC Direct state that their hours do not extend to bank holidays, there is no way they will have commenced processing my application. I therefore request a full refund of the £34.50 I was fooled into paying and that all my details are destroyed from their system.
