[LAPSED] Typical holiday company with no assistance from ABTA

Complaint against Mercury Holidays

on 5th December 2014 booked a three week holiday along with my girlfriend by telephone direct with Mercury Holidays. had to change holiday dates due to my girlfriend being diabetic and suffering from osteoporosis. We had arranged to obtain holiday insurance during January 2015 but due to girlfriend having heavy back fall during New Year break(she sustained 3 compound fractures of the back) we were forced to cancel holiday due to doctor refusing to allow her to fly out of the country on due flying date. Mercury were told all of this and we even asked for holiday to be put on hold for three months in order for her to recover. They refused to answer two emails until I told them that I would be telephoning ABTA who were a complete waste of time and space. I received from a holiday costing £1040 a refund of £90.80.without any reply from Mercury whatsoever. When we received original invoice from Mercury there were no holiday conditions included in this at all. We also have medical evidence to support her back problem.

Dear Mr Butler When you purchase a holiday it is vital that your purchase adequate travel insurance to cover you in the event that you need to amend or cancel your holiday. Upon a client confirming a holiday, we are liable to pay our suppliers in order to secure the booking. These payments vary depending on how many days prior to the departure the booking is made. We do not receive a refund from our suppliers which is why we clearly state the cancellation policy in our Terms and Conditions.
