The UK’s burglary hotspots revealed
Henley-in-Arden tops Britain’s list of burglary hotspots.
A huge study into crime across the country has revealed where Britain’s burglar hotspots are. More than 2.5 million home insurance quotes over the past two years have helped identify where the problem areas are.
This study also found that burglary overall has increased 16% in 2018 compared to the previous year.
The highest rates of burglary were found in Henley-in-Arden in Warwickshire, a town that is affluent and has average house prices of over £460,000. It tops the list with 50.46 claims per 1,000 insurance quotes over the last two years.
This top spot has previously gone to Guildford, Surrey, but this year marked a change. Then Ingatestone, near Chelmsford, in Essex, is not far behind with 49.76 claims per 1,000 insurance quotes.
The lowest burglary rate was found in Whitehaven in Cumbria. The town had only 0.76 claims per 1,000 quotes.
Cockermouth and Mayport, both nearby in Cumbria, are also very unlikely to be burgled. Other places in the UK successfully keeping burglars out of homes are Falmouth, Cornwall and Aberystwyth in Wales.
People in Leeds (31%) and London (28%) are shown by the study to be the most likely to believe they live in a burglary hotspot.
This data was gathered by MoneySuperMarket, and they found that on average those who have been subject to a burglary over the past five years pay an average of 16.8% more for their contents insurance policy.
