Complaint against Euro Car Parks

I have lived in Alton my home town for 47 years and parked in the station car park on regular occasions for work for about 25 years. I always purchase my rail ticket and parking ticket from the ticket office in Alton train station as I did on this day but unfortunately the main car park was full and I had to use the over spill car park. I had no idea that it had different rules for parking and the man at the ticket office never mentioned it. I displayed my ticket as normal and imagine my surprise when I received a parking fine saying I should of called to book the car in, I had no idea! I do understand they have signs which I've since been back and read and will adhere to moving forward. I explained all this to them saying it wasn't a deliberate move I had purchased a ticket which I claim back so it doesn't cost me personally so why wouldn't I pay for it. I then went on line and tried on three different systems to appeal the ticket but of course this didn't work so conscious of time I hand wrote a letter a special delivery costing over £6 and they came back and said I should of read the sign. I do know this but it was my first time and I had paid the correct amount of money. A good company would of slapped me on the rise and told me to read the sign next time.
