My daughter was graduating from drama school in london and the air ticket was bought for me by my other daughter on 7th Jan 2015 to travel Belfast to Heathrow Thurs16th July returning Sun19th july costing £108 return flight. In April my daughter informed me that her final perfomance was showing on wed 15/07 and as I had not been in a position to see any of her other performances she offered to change the original booking for me from 16th july to 15th july. She rang cheapoair and was told that it would cost £150 to change the flight departure to Wed 15/07 even though the return flight only cost £108. She didnt have that sort of money so she booked a separate single flight so I could return on the original flight which was already paid for. I think one could forgive her for thinking this was ok to do as she had previously been in a situation where she and her partner had booked to travel together for a long weekend only to find that a last minute change to her schedule in drama school meant she had to leave a day later on a different flight. She was still allowed to use the return flight of her original booking to go back. This is a definate grey area in the system.Why should a single person be penalised? IF I had travelled with a companion then the situation would not have arisen. I am a 62 year old grandmother at present receiving sickness benefit. Basically when I went to avail of the return flight it was cancelled because I didnt use the departure flight and I had to pay £196 to get home. How can airlines get away with with this extortion. This has really sickened me as I had no other way of paying for this flight other than using my overdraft for which I still am unable to pay. I really want a refund and cheapoair have not helped me whatsoever in trying to reslove this. Can you please help?
