Argos refusing full refund after recalling car seats.

Complaint against Argos

We have two of the affected car seats bought about a year apart. One we bought for £129.99 and the other purchased this March for £99.99. We paid cash for both. As the car seats worked, we're not damaged and fitted without any trouble, we discarded the receipts. Now both seats have been recalled amongst fears for safety and Argos are flatly refusing to refund the full amount of money for them. I tried telephoned both the stores purchased from and the customer service number but was in a queue for 47 minutes and had to give up. I later telephoned one of the stores again and was told the amount offered without proof of purchase would be £26.99. After numerous tweets and complaints to their Facebook page I was called by a member of customer services and was told I could have a refund of £49.99 leaving me over £100 out of pocket. I have contacted trading standards as I'm under the impression they are breaking both the consumer rights act 2015 and the sale of goods act 1989 which state that the retailer cannot offer less than the price paid for goods in the event of them being faulty. A number of friends also affected by the issue have taken their seats back also without proof of purchase and have been refunded the full amount.
