Complaint against Argos

So on Sunday we visited our local argos to spend some vouchers from Xmas, I spoke with a member of staff on the shop floor about a product advertised on a cardboard display, an Amazon echo,I asked questions about the product and made a note of the product number to take over to the till and make the purchase. When we arrived home I opened the box and plugged the echo in expecting that it would need a good charge before use as with most electrical items, later that night I attempted to turn it on, to cut a long story short I thought the echo was faulty and googled for info about charging, I learned that the Amazon echo is mains powered and doesn't have a battery. The girls on the shop floor led me to believe that this was a portable device and I was happy thinking I could move it around my home and garden freely... this is not the case so I thought ok pack it back up and take it back to exchange for a product fit for what I wanted. How wrong I was, argos will not exchange it as it's apparently now used and it isn't faulty, it's not been used at all. They then asked me to leave my details so that they can question the member of staff when she returns to work as to what she told us about the echo etc, I wonder what the outcome of this will be ?, will she admit or even remember the conversation with us. how as a customer should I be expected to use my time and fuel travelling to and from a store when I purchased in good faith and why should I await there management to correctly train staff on product knowledge or about what they should or shouldn't say to customers. I'm not the best with technology and understanding how it works or what they do so clearly I listened to what I was told, i guess now it's my word against this staff member, where are my consumer rights and what's happened to customer service Appalling service
