Groupon weekender breaks 'deal'/rip-off
Complaint against Groupon
what I sent to Groupon: Today I called back Weekender Breaks to arrange the trip purchased on the groupon voucher. on the call i was advised that the return flight would be at 6am, hence require check-out at 3am (words of the advisor), and for an extra £40 each (you had to purchase a minimum of two vouchers) I could get a later flight which I accepted. while on the call I was advised that If I had to call back later to confirm, after discussing with my friend who is also going, I would loose the later flight as there was only a few seats left. also the advisor sent me an email which he wanted me to review and confirm while on the call. which again I felt compelled to do. after the call i decided to quickly check online how much a single flight from Charles de Gaulle to Edinburgh on the 27th Jan would cost, I was shocked to find out that the easyjet flght that we are booked on alone can be purchased for £36 directly from easy jet, confirming that I could have left the order as is, miss the earlier flight purchase my own flights and still save money! after finding this out i then decided to check to cost of other parts of the 'DEAL', with not much effort at all I could arrange myself the exact same as what has been purchased through groupon/weekend breaks for much less that the value of the groupon voucher never mind the surcharge of £40. same flights, times etc. direct from easy jet, £53 each same Disney 1-day/2 park ticket, from Disney (not discounted), £49 each same hotel, RO (as inc in deal), same dates etc. on trivago.co.uk, £145 based on 2 sharing (same as deal). that comes to a total of £349, value of 2x groupon vouchers £478 (+£129), totals with surcharge £558 (+£208) also on the easyjet web-site for the flight that only had a few seats left, 9 out of 180 seats are booked out. Effectively instead of getting a good deal from groupon, this feels like I've been robbed. and its no-cancellation/non-refundable, no doubt for this exact reason.
