Complaint against Hotpoint
I contacted Hotpoint in August to notify them that I have one if the recalled dryers. On 30th August I received an email saying they would contact me within 2 weeks. Having heard nothing I contacted them again on 28th September. I was told that my case has not been registered yet and this would take up to 8 weeks. After that it is anyone's guess how long it will be before it is repaired. They say I can keep using it provided I follow certain precautions, but doing so will not guarantee that it doesn't catch on fire - just that I will be in the house when it does! I suspect my insurance company would be reluctant to pay out for a fire caused by a machine that I know to be a risk. I believe many people will simply give up trying to get a repair - to Hotpoint's benefit. These machines put people's lives at risk and Hotpoint should be forced to repair them within a reasonable period. Even if that means their other business suffers. A moral company would put the lives of their customers first. If they are not prepared to do that then they should be in breech of the law and prosecuted.
