Had a very nasty experience in the Range Newport Rd. Bought two LED lamps and gave one as a birthday present yesterday. After switching on for a couple of minutes, smoke was bellowing out of it and a very toxic smell went right through the house. I took the lamp back to the range this morning and apart from being dealt with by an abnoxious member of staff, who didnt even bother to apologise for the trauma and severe scare caused (just glad they were in the room when this happened, or it could ended as a house fire), they refused to refund the full amount paid and only refunded me half of the money. On ringing customer services, I was told that I was very lucky to get a refund at all, as I didnt have a reciept. (since when did a receipt matter when you have bought dangerous faulty goods)? Not a happy customer and taking this further. Sourse online... the guardian... Stores often try the "no refund or return without a receipt" line. No store has to change or refund an item simply because the owner does not like the colour. But where an item fails, shops do not have the right to demand a receipt. A credit card slip or statement or even the say-so of a person who was present when the products were purchased, are legally enough. I had a witness, but they still refused.
