[LAPSED] Chromebook fails after 18 months and Currys refuse to replace

Complaint against Currys PC World

My chromebook's touchscreen was repaired within warranty but failed again within months. Despite the product being less than 18 months old, Curry's refused to do anything except refund me £130 (the product was £240). The chromebook is unusable as the touchscreen keeps making multiple phantom touches. Under EU law you are required to repair or replace a device for 2 years after purchase. I am a student and simply cannot afford to foot the extra £100 it costs to buy a new chromebook. This is appalling service and completely illegal. I have paid full price from your store in good faith and am left with a thoroughly defective product that failed WITHIN WARRANTY!!

Hi Tony, despite frequent communication with your rep I am still no closer to getting this solved. You are legally bound to repair or replace this. Please let me know how you would like to proceed. Compensation of £100 less than the amount I paid for the device is not good enough - I should not have to repurchase this device less than two years after I bought it.


Sorry Laura, The offer that has been made is based upon both age and use that you have had out of the appliance. As such, on this occasion we will not be able to increase the offer that has been made. Apologies once more that we are unable to offer the resolution that you are seeking. Richard
