Complaint against Currys PC World

Bought an Acer PC with HDMI port and decided to buy a TV to display. Salesman said it might be difficult to connect and gave a "free" months service agreement just in case I needed it. I now find this is an ongoing agreement WHICH WAS NOT EXPLAINED AT TIME OF PURCHASE and I am getting £6.60 charges to my credit card. This is blatant mis-selling by Currys and I would like to know their response. I am currently trying to cancel on the phone and considering a charge back on my credit card.

Hi Peggy, I am sorry to learn of the payments to which you refer. This transaction would appear on your till receipt at the time of purchase and each monthly statement thereon. If you would kindly provide me with your full name and address, I will ensure its cancelled for you. Thanks - Marcus

I agree that it is on the thermal paper you refer to as a receipt BUT when the amount charged on a transaction agrees with the expected amount - how many people examine these flimsy pieces of paper? I told the salesman I DID NOT WANT INSURANCE. I was "given" the insurance free for a month IN CASE I couldn't connect the TV to my computer. With an IT professional as a husband I didn't request this!

I have I hope managed to cancel further payments but require the refund of an amount I did not request (except through devious means) to be deducted from my credit card. It does not show your company in a very good light when it has to resort to underhanded methods to "sell" their products!

Apologies Peggy, however without the details requested by my colleague Marcus, I am unable to assist further. Kindly provide me with your full name and address and I can ensure that the Service Agreement is cancelled - Shaun

Hi Peggy, I am sorry you remain unhappy on this one. I can certainly check that the agreement is cancelled successfully if you can let me know your details? Refund wise we allow a period of grace (typically 28 days from purchase). But I can use some discretion if you are in the region of this timeframe? - Marcus

Hi Marcus, As I had a "free" month I wasn't aware of the existence of this "agreement" until after at least 28 days as this was my credit card payment date. The purchase was made on 31-08-2016. I see (from previous replies) that you take the provision of a PIN during the transaction to be proof of acceptance of your "contract", how is this possible as the details only appear AFTER payment?

TEAM KNOWHOW | | VERIFIED

Hi Peggy, again I offer my full apologies. If you would kindly provide me with the requested information I am then better placed to advise further. At the end of a free period given by the store the Agreement would need to be cancelled otherwise it would continue to renew at the agreed rate. I do understand your comments regarding entering a pin number into the terminal, however entering the Pin>

number advises the bank that the card user has authorised the requested payments to be paid. The store wouldn't be able to change the payment of the service agreement to zero and any free period offered would be a discount applied against the item purchased. Kindly provide me with the requested details, so that I can assist you further - Shaun

Hi Shaun, I NEVER ENTERED INTO ANY CONTRACT I purchased equipment and paid for it NOT UNTIL AFTER I had provided my PIN were any further details provided as to recurring charges. This amounts to handing me a contract that has been signed before it is presented. I had refused a contract earlier and was accepting an offer of a FREE MONTH no more. I can provide con number but not address on forum.

TEAM KNOWHOW | | VERIFIED

Hi Peggy, you are welcome to email me at [email protected] with the requested details - Shaun

Hi Shaun, I prefer to keep the conversation visible for all to see how far Currys will go to refuse the refund of £6-50. My "Ref" No is 0878400159 and it should not be beyond the capabilities of a technology based company to find my address and other details from this. Perhaps you can provide me with proof of the "contract" I am supposed to have entered into in return!

TEAM KNOWHOW | | VERIFIED

Hi Peggy, thank you for your reference number, however I do need the details requested in order to comply with Data Protection and to ensure I am speaking with the account holder. You are welcome to email me the requested details and I will reply on here if you so wish - Shaun

Peggy Baldwin | | VERIFIED

Hi Shaun, Giving these details by email is NOT SECURE my husband informs me. Also the Data Protection Act has NO relevance in resolving this dispute as 1) you are already talking to me and 2) The details are not needed to verify that you have NO grounds for taking the payment without authorisation. I note you do not mention any proof of the "supposed" contract.

TEAM KNOWHOW | | VERIFIED

Hi Peggy, please accept my apologies however I do require the request information. Again to comply with Data Protection Act, as we would be discussing a customer's account and as such I need to ensure that I am discussing this matter with the person named on that account. I do offer my apologies that you are unhappy, however I do politely request the information requested is supplied>

alternatively I can call you to discuss this matter and take the requested details - Shaun

Peggy Baldwin | | VERIFIED

Hi Shaun, I have already provided all of my details to your call centre when I cancelled further payments under this credit card. I do not see how you will be discussing an account as I do not consider I have an agreement with you and you do not seem able to provide any evidence of this. I will provide specific letters from my address as per bank verifications if needed.

Thanks Peggy, I understand that you are unhappy providing us with the information that we require to offer further support/advice. Without this information being confirmed to us we are restricted to what information we can offer. I'm sorry that on this occasion we're unable to assist any further with your enquiry. Richard

Peggy Baldwin | | VERIFIED

Hi Richard, You have the information - the "contract" No and the details I have submitted of what happened. You are using the excuse of the Data Protection Act to not investigate the occurrence. I think this is just an excuse to cover up a way of implementing a lucrative money making scheme that provides no more protection than the Sale of Goods Act. WHY CAN'T YOU CONTINUE?

Peggy Baldwin | | VERIFIED

I asked for a refund of money that was taken without a signed authorisation from my credit card. The data on the receipt was only made available AFTER I had provided a PIN number so does not form part of an agreement. You are hiding from the truth in saying you can't discuss the matter as there is no more to discuss, you acted without my authority - PAY UP!

My reply is YOU PROVIDE ME with a name and address of someone WITH THE AUTHORITY to resolve my complaint as you are obviously to low down the chain of command to deal with it. This is no more than you are asking me for OR is this a one-way process. I find you incapable of resolving my complaint and only capable of wasting my time! Perhaps the MD of DSG would be a start.

TEAM KNOWHOW | | VERIFIED

Hi Peggy, I do regret to inform you that we would be unable to assist you further in this matter, as you have not provided us with the requested details. If you would like to provide us further information to a secure address, please email us at [email protected] . Thanks. AK

As you keep attempting to close this complaint by saying you can't help and REFUSE to offer any further more senior contacts to persue the matter I am forced to close the complaint and show that once again you just wasted my time by not providing requested details.

Failure to provide contact details of senior personnel able to assist in this matter. Claim has been continued by other means.
