Complaint against Currys PC World

We bought a TV in November 2017. Having checked my bank account I was more than a little perturbed to find a payment going out for a 'product support AG' for the amount of £8.50. After a long tracking process by the bank, I discovered this transaction is a recurring payment for an insurance I DID NOT purchase!!!! Not only was it difficult to cancel, the number provided by Curry's for this insurance product didn't exist!!! This surely amounts to fraud?? I was under the impression that insurance for a TV is not compulsory?
