[LAPSED] Washer stopped.working at 20 months

Complaint against Currys PC World

Popped in store. Managed advised he could do nothing as 12 months up. I stated sale of goods act 1979 suggests 6 years. I wrote as such to Currys HO who sent a letter 3 weeks later apologising for late reply and offering a voucher for £108.20 against another machine. I have written again stating machine only 20 months old and this is not reasonable. There was only me and my daughter at home. My friend has same model machine, a husband, 3 grown up sons and a cleaning business employing 4 staff and her machine is 5 years old. I am waiting on their reply but been without a washer for about 6 weeks now. I also asked them to offer delivery and installation which I paid for. I cancelled my warranty as I thought it was not needed as covered by samle of goods act What are my options? I can't afford another machine and delivery (I live on 2nd floor) and installation already Thanks

I've sent my details as requested. Ive had another letter of apology still offering the same amount as a payment voucher adter review. This value is achieved based on the age of the product within the 6 years applicable within the Sale of Goods Act. It still doesnt buy me a new washer, nor cover the delivery, removal of old machine and installation I paid for. Can a spokesman said pursue it further please? Thank you Deb

Although I am unable to increase the depreciated credit already offered, as this is based on the original purchase price and age of the item, I would be happy to assist with the installation and scrap removal you refer to. Hi. I've sent a letter registered post. I've given 14 days to respond. Spoke to citizens advice consumer line ref 13990790. They agree 20 months not long for a washer, suggested dispute resolution scheme if Currys a member or employ one if not. Further advice given all listed in the letter. Meanwhile I am still without a washer. I'd appreciate resolution soon. Thanks, Deb

I can confirm that we replied to your correspondence on the 1st September, so this will no doubt be en-route to you as we speak. However to speed up matters, the crux of this response was sadly a rejection of your request to increase our offer already made.

On a more positive note I am still happy to honour my previous offer of adding the installation and scrap service at no extra cost. You have still not offered a refund in the way I paid (which was cash) and I am not satisfied with your offer. Consumer line advised that if i was still unsatisfied to go to a mediation scheme, you may already be a member of one? If not we can employ one. 20 months is not long enough for a washing machine to last, and i am advised I can claim expenses incurred by taking my laundry elsewhere

I have been without a washer for 3 months now. I will contact citizens advice consumer line again for further advice and information on a dispute resolution scheme. I have sent you my email address. I emailed back and decided to accept the offer of the part refund in cash. The person responding is using bad grammar and fobbing me off with further excuses. This is diabolical service. If the money is not in my account by next Thursday I will happily pop in store to collect it in cash. I'll check with consumer direct as to whether I can charge you a daily interest rate for the delay.
