Susan's complaint against Vodafone

[LAPSED] Vodafone - I canceled the account 21 months ago but have now been told I owe £700 for line rental

Complaint against Vodafone

I canceled an unwanted Vodafone number in November 2015, received & paid the final (posted) invoice in December 2015 and thought that was the end of it. We'd had the number for several years and were no longer bound by any contract. This week I received a (posted) letter from Vodafone informing me that my package price was increasing so I rang them to advise that I was no longer a customer only to be told that my number had only been suspended & not canceled so therefore I owe approx £700 for 21 months line rental + penalties. I didn't even know that a customer could 'suspend' an account. What would be the point of that? I hadn't heard from Vodafone from December 2015 to date. They have since told me that they'd been texting the canceled phone to advise me that the service was being suspended. Vodafone accept that there was no usage from Nov '15 onwards. They have 'kindly' offered me three months line rental discounted from this invoice if I paid the balance in full. It's been left that they will send me out a 'deadlock' letter (whatever that is) that I then respond to. Any advice please?
