Loss of £1000 due to voucher expiry.

Complaint against easyJet

Having booked 9 places on a flight to Malaga last June for a special family holiday a member of the party became unexpectedly pregnant and unable to fly on the due date meaning the holiday needed postponing for one year. Contact was made with easyJet who would not give a refund but offered a voucher for the amount of £1000+. The voucher duly arrived by email with a date of 18 September as expiry but with a line attached which read, "can be used to book flights after the expiry date". On or about 7 October when the flights I needed became available I contacted custom services who while considerate where unable to transfer the voucher to new flights saying they had expired. I again contacted my original contact at customer services who informed me that as the voucher had now expired there was no further course of action they are prepared to take and that they intended to keep over £1000 of mine on a misunderstanding of the comment "can be used to book flights after the expiry date. I have now paid easyJet an additional £1800+ for new seats.
