Complaint against First Choice
We booked a holiday to Rhodes at the beginning of the year in a fully-inclusive hotel. Then my daughter was diagnosed with anorexia. Her condition deteriorated and we were advised by her psychologist that she would not be able to go out of the country on holiday. Things were very stressful at home and I rang First Choice and spoke to someone in a call centre with a strong Asian accent. We were told that we would lose the deposit if we cancelled the holiday, but we had no choice. Then my daughter was admitted to hospital following a weekend when she had been put on a drip at A&E. She will remain in the mental health unit for several months until her weight reaches a satisfactory level for her to continue treatment in the community. This has allowed our family a bit of respite from a very stressful situation at home dealing with her mental condition as well as trying to get her to eat and drink. I got back in touch with First Choice armed with a letter from the psychologist and address of the hospital where she is being treated (I can give them proof if necessary) and asked whether we could put the £800 deposit we paid towards a holiday next year. I have since had two letters back from First Choice telling us they will not allow this and wishing my daughter well. I don't think we have been treated very well and will not be using this holiday company again unless they can show a bit of compassion.
