Confiscated Tool at Manchester Airport
Complaint against Manchester Airport
I was taking my electric sander to help renovate my partner's property in Germany and this was confiscated by the customs staff, as (following a long debate), whilst the lady next to me had a hair drier in her bag which was let through. It seems to me a heat producing electrical hair dryer is more dangerous that a vibration producing sander. They claimed the sander was classed as a tool however the government advice shows only hand tools with 'blades' such as a screwdriver and lists no electrical items as follows: http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/dangerous-and-restricted-items-what-you-cannot-take-on-board-a-flight. This seems totally unfair and random and as a result I had to purchase a new sander in Germany at 60 Euros. Really unhappy about this especially as I had had the sander for about 20 years.
