Scammers false advertising on Groupon deal
Complaint against Weekender Breaks
We bought a groupon voucher for a 10 night trip to Thailand and the gorgeous Island of Phuket, for £699. When it came to booking the holiday, it wasn't so simple. Firstly, Weekender Breaks could not honour the hotels they have used to promote the deal, and secondly they wanted another £159 per person for direct flights. To add insult to injury, the alternative hotels were substandard in comparison to the flashy groupon deal. Feeling totally scammed, we started to do our own research and discovered that we could actually create the same itinerary for the same price. With a little extra we could go 4 Star and stay in the luxury. So we turned down the offer to pay an extra £300, and insisted on our deal, which was still great for the price. The very brash sales rep came back with another idea, pay £69 per person instead, with the substandard hotels. Again, we refused, so by day four of this escapade, she offered us a trip to Dubai. Not quite Thailand, and slightly bemused, we refused and asked to speak to a manager. A very polite male, with a great and unrealistic Britain name for a non-European, based somewhere in Mumbai, came to our rescue. Unfortunately, he could not honour the groupon deal either because their supplier was only offering cheaper accommodation. To shut us up, he did offer bed and breakfast for our entire stay; with a stopover in China - the cheaper flight options. Thankfully, Groupon honoured a full refund, so we've not had to request a clawback from AMEX. We have instead organised our own trip, with 5 Star accommodation and direct flights for £800 each. I'm unsure who the positive reviews on trustpilot are from? I have a sneaky suspicion it could from said company personnel themselves.
