Karl Brown: 1/5 Stars 18/10/2018 Beko Tumble Dryer Melted Plug! I have a Beko tumble dryer that last month caught fire around the plug! Luckily I was home and managed to turn off the electric at the mains before it got worse. The plug was badly melted and it dryer is obviously not usable. I contacted Beko about this and they apologised and said they would send someone out. The guy arrived and checked it over and said it was a fault with the plug/cable and it needed replaced or the dryer could be replaced. About a month has passed I havnt heard anything, so I called yesterday and they said they won’t replace it because it’s out of warranty!! Beko have had many problems in recent times with plugs causing fires and someone was actually killed in a fire caused by a Beko tumble dryer. They are aware it’s a major problem with their dryers, so a company of this size should be fixing dryers free of change for the safety of the customer and also because of the bad media around these products. I am absolutely foaming that they won’t help me out, I ve complained but it’s the same out of warranty excuse. There’s so many people online who’s plugs have melted and not been helped by Beko! I want a refund or at the very very least it fixed free of change and tested to make sure it’s 100% safe. Beko has not yet responded. Rachel Gill 27/04/2018 Beko tumble dryer plug melted!! So today my Beko tumble dryer nearly caught on fire. The plug melted and was smoking! Very scary and extremely dangerous. Trying to get hold of someone from Beko is ridiculous. I’ve looked online and can see that this is a major fault in many of the tumble dryers. This could kill and they should be replaced and reframed was selling. Beko has not yet responded. Keith Jones: 1/5 Stars 01/09/2016 Beko 6kg condenser tumble dryer Tumble dryer has performed very well until recently. Now when the dryer is in use and at a indeterminate part of the cycle there will be a cracking noise followed by a smell like a burnt firework (gunpowder). Sometimes the main home fuse box will trip too and has to be re-set. Beko has not yet responded. Story by Fred Isaac 08/03/2016 Beko customer dodges fire after tumble dryer plug burns into socket The Whirpool tumble dryer fiasco forced customers to anxiously check their kitchen appliances. Since 2004, 750 fires have been caused by dodgy tumble dryers sold by the Whirpool brands - Indesit, Creda and Hotpoint. Now one home-owner says she is worried machines from other makers might also be dangerous. Rosemarie Khan has demanded an investigation after the plug on her Beko tumble dryer melted into the wall's electrical socket. The bust machine flipped the trip switch cutting off the electricity at Rosemarie’s home in Kingsbridge, South Devon. When Rosemarie went to investigate, she smelt burning in the kitchen and found the plug charred and burnt. Tumble fire hazard “If it hadn't flipped the trip switch I believe we would have had a house fire,” Rosemarie, 52, told us. “I was shocked. You don’t realise how serious it is until you Google the problem and see the damage these appliances can cause.” Self-employed illustrator Rosemarie told us she had “never seen anything like it” in thirty years using tumble dryers. The appliance, a Beko DCU7230S, was less than a year old when Rosemarie bought it and cost just short of £250 from AO.com. It’s not the first time the Beko model has experienced problems. In October 2013, Beko told owners of models made between May and October 2012 to stop using the tumble dryer immediately and to unplug it from the wall. It said there had been a “small number of incidents” where “an electrical component has failed and overheated, leading to a potential risk of fire.” To check whether a model is affected, customers were asked to look at the ten digit serial number on the rating’s plate. The first two digits give the year of production and the last two give the month. What next? Beko have offered Rosemarie a free replacement dryer and arranged for an engineer to visit. “I don’t want that tumble dryer in my house,” said Rosemarie, “I want a refund or a different model. “My eleven-year-old son’s bedroom is just underneath our kitchen and, when you realise what could have happened, it’s enough to make anyone anxious.” “I wonder how many of these defective tumble dryers are being sold Rosemarie’s story will concern any household that owns one of the 20 million Beko appliances sold in the UK. We’ve raised the case with Beko and invited them to reassure customers and issue safety guidelines. Rosemarie added: “People need to be made more aware of the dangers of the tumble dryer.” UPDATE: Beko responded: "Every Beko product is designed and manufactured to meet our customers' requirements, focusing on safety, quality and innovation. All our products meet and exceed all UK and European standards. With around ten million white goods appliances sold by manufacturers in the UK each year, a very small number may develop faults – some of which are caused by component failures and some by unsafe use in the home. "When these involve a Beko-manufactured appliance we work with customers and consumers to resolve these issues wherever possible. We can confirm that we have replaced the cable and plug of Ms Khan’s appliance and are currently awaiting the return of the old plug for inspection.” CLICK HERE: Compare the cheapest insurance quotes | Save money on your insurance bills |
