Akoola 1: 1/5 Stars 22/11/2019 Banksters! Many of the Santander branches local to me have closed. I was a student when I opened a 123 account. I have finished university and have been unable to find work. Unfortunately, I ran up an overdraft which while at university and I was unable to settle up in full when I switched my banking to another bank who still operate a branch locally. I received a phone call two days ago from a very nice young lady from Santander to discuss the £1475 overdraft (well inside the greed £2000 overdraft limit) and I assure her that I will make payments every month from my small income. As soon as I find work I will make a concerted effort to clear the remainder of the debt. She told me the account has no charges pending and our discussion has been recorded and I will not hear from them as long as I continue to make payments every month. Because my account is technically closed I was provided with another account detail to transfers money to. Today I received an email to inform me that my account has exceeded the agreed overdraft limit (the account is closed and I certainly haven’t spent £525 since speaking to the lady) and I will be charged daily until I bring it back into credit. The account is frozen and two days ago I was told how much I owed and there are charges pending! I was concerned about this very scenario when I spoke to the lady because I have a very limited income and did not want the bank to compound my financial problem. She assured me that would not happen, yet now I’m facing a £50 fee and daily interest charges! I accept that I am responsible for the debt which accumulated due to not finding work and my having a very limited income. I have never claimed benefits and rely on a very modest pension from my old job (I was a mature student). Unfortunately, my circumstances dramatically changed in the last few months of my university course following a marriage breakdown and I found myself homeless while still attending university. I am homeless and live in a van. I filled out an o line benefits calculator and it appears, despite contributing all my working life, I’m entitled to nothing. I explained all this and the lady was very sympathetic. Now Santander is compounding my financial difficulties! Santander has not yet responded. Dan Gable: 1/5 Stars 30/03/2019 Locked out of my accounts So after a 'security breach' I have been locked out of all my accounts including business accounts and my credit card has also been stopped. I have funds, quite a lot of funds and the only way I can access my accounts is to go into the branch and present my driving licence. Oh and they have given me no indiction as to when I can access my money online of via the telephone. Not even a hint. One person said a couple of days but after a bit of pushing it turns out 'a coupe' does not mean two or even seven or even 30. They are not willing to specify days weeks or months! I just have no access to my accounts and have been treated terribly and left unable to pay suppliers. Even though the person trying to get into my account did not pass security they chose to lock everything down and shut me out. Santander has not yet responded. Wale Gold: 1/5 Stars 21/06/2018 Account was blocked because i got a foreign transfer My Current Account was blocked without any notices because a client paid money into my account from Germany. I was stranded in Germany for more than a week and the security team was the most useless i have ever dealt with. I emailed a copy of my links to the client that made the payment and told them i had no money to come back to the UK and they just said they did not know when the matter will be resolved. I have had the account for more than 10yrs and cannot wait to switch Santander has not yet responded. John Boyes: 1/5 Stars 15/11/2016 Frozen Account On 14th November 2016, Santander froze my current account, but decided not to tell me. At 9am on the day in question I was at a petrol station filling the car when I went to try and withdraw money from my account the machine said my card was not recognised , I was left without the ability to pay for my fuel and promptly telephoned the bank. Having waited almost one hour and passed from pillar to post I was told my account had been blocked but no reason would be given and that I had to visit the branch urgently if I wanted to withdraw money. I explained the situation to the petrol station and promptly ordered a taxi to take me to Santander in Halifax West Yorkshire. I was greeted by lady who after an initial 30 minute wait told me I had been given false information and that no money was allowed to be taken from my account , trying to stay calm but aware of the taxi waiting outside I requested to speak to a manager. Another 30 minutes passed and I was eventually taken to see a lady the front desk told me was a senior manager +++ , +++ gave me various versions of why my account had been frozen all of which were a nonsense , querying payments that had gone into my account which happen on a regular basis and then suggesting a possible atm dispute for another reason. I put it in rather blunt terms to +++ , I had a taxi waiting outside , no ability to pay for it , a car stuck in a petrol station and no way of paying for any of it , she again called Leon in the security team who told her no funds would be released from my account and that I would be contacted once checks had been completed , when I asked +++ if it was a matter of days or weeks she said she was unable to answer any further questions and hurried me out of the branch. At that point I went back out to the taxi , told him the situation and he became very angry and aggressive , to calm the situation down I spoke to the taxi drivers boss and agreed to give him my watch until the taxi debt was settled , I then rang the petrol station and explained my car would be moved once the situation had been resolved , I was told if it wasn’t moved by 7pm it would be impounded by the police. I arrived home at 4pm on the day in question and rang the bank again, I was offered no reason why my account had been frozen and was told I would be written to in due course. I rang again and was then requested to go back to the branch and close my account which I promptly did. I was then able to put right the rest of the day which ended at 6pm last night. Absolutely disgusted, angry and still searching for reasons why. What on earth are you playing at ? a bank I have trusted with thousands over the last year fails me in this way. I would like answers to why this happened and what will be done to put this situation right. Santander has not yet responded. Tony Auld: 1/5 Stars 21/07/2016 complaint against Santander bank, Alcudia old town branch I have a serious issue with Santander Alcudia old Town branch. Details are as follows, all relevant documentation is attached. • In 2013 my Father, Antony Auld deposited £38,522.50 and £43,790.51 in to my, Antonia Auld and my boyfriends, Anthony Devlins bank account at Santander, Alcudia. I am Antony Aulds Daughter. • He deposited the money as he had no bank account in Majorca, he was looking for a business to purchase at the time and he used my bank account to hold the money safely. • Unbeknown to me and my Father the money has been withdrawn without our knowledge or authority. • My original complain letter to Santander is attached, they replied eventually to this stating that the money had been withdrawn correctly. (Santander reply march 2016 attached) • I asked for the deposit slips which were mailed to me, I asked Anthony Devlin to confirm if he was present when the money was withdrawn. • He replied (email attached ‘santander withdrawal slips’) stating that he definitely didn’t sign slips 1 and 2 (deposit slips numbered 1 to 5 are attached) • I then wrote back to Santander asking them to review the CCTV footage from the date and time of the withdrawal to prove that neither I nor Anthony Devlin withdrew the money. • Santander replied stating that we would have to request a calligrapher, I have responded asking again why they cannot review the CCTV, as yet they have not replied. • Neither I nor Anthony Devlin have made the withdrawals numbered 1 and 2 and this is the amount of money the bank should refunds to my Father (72,000.00€) • Clearly they have allowed someone to withdraw the money from the account without our knowledge or permission and are trying to hide the evidence by not supplying or reviewing the CCTV footage. I would like you to review this case as we are really concerned that the money has been stolen. Antonia Auld Santander has not yet responded.
