This is how the RA left artist Jess de Wahls out to dry. She wrote a piece in 2019 explaining she had no problem with “somebody expressing themselves as if they are the other sex” but she could not accept their “unsubstantiated assertions that they are in fact the other sex.” Pretty harmless stuff but look what happened. The nasty trans gang started tweeting against her to the RA and to her personally. The disgraceful executives at the RA then announce online that they were banning her work from their shop and thanked social media folk for alerting them. Then the silent majority joined in on Jess’s side. And guess what? The academy have apologised, withdrawn the ban and said;” Plurality of voices, tolerance and free thinking are at the core of what we stand for. This has confirmed to us our commitment to freedom of expression and to addressing complex issues through engagement and debate.” That is bollocks. They would never have said any of that had you not got tweeting and Facebooking. I am seeing us have more victories than defeats of late. Forcing out the National Trust chairman who insisted on branding all our historical building as in some way racist was a triumph. And GB News defeating an ad boycott by brands who have plenty of their own problems was another win. These are only small victories but a year ago we weren’t winning any.
