BBC boss gets £75K rise (16.6%) to £525K. Time to dump the licence fee and adopt a Netflix model.9/27/2021 If you plan to buy either car or home insurance I wonder if you might look at my small price comparison site A Spokesman Said as we earn a little commission from each sale which helps fund the research and editorial costs of running the site. Take their latest bizarre and quite wrong decision to give their Director General Tim Davie a £75,000-a-year pay rise. He was hardly skint before, making a handy £450,000 enough you would have thought to keep him in those trendy white trainers he likes wearing at public dos. The rise of 16.6% is our money. It’s not as though he has come up with some great idea to reduce the £157.50. In fact the very reverse. The BBC spend their entire lives pleading with the government for more money (our money) to increase the size of their empire. Why doesn’t the government tie his pay to reducing the size of the licence. I suspect all the over 75s would agree with me on that idea as from the end of July for the first time they had to cough up. So the politics of this rise are appalling. The reality is that ordinary people are happy to pay for what they want (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sky) but do not want to be forced for fear of jail to pay for stuff they seldom watch. The time has come to scrap the licence fee and replace it a subscription model. The BBC’s current income is way over £3bllion but I suspect subscription would bring in much more. That way Mr Davie could earn as much as he likes without there being a row every time. It’s time to dump the licence fee.
