Kurt, a salesman from Surrey, saved £300 on his home insurance | Get cheap quotes now The tasty but expensive ice cream Ben and Jerry’s is owned by the consumer goods giant Unilever, which also produces brands as diverse as Persil and Marmite. The company has just announced to the justifiable fury of Israeli politicians that they will stop selling its ice cream -made in a factory in Israel - to the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. Why would a global business do such a thing? They have bowed at the knee to a nasty organisation called the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement which has been campaigning for years against all Israeli products because it doesn’t approve of the occupation of Palestinian territories or the annexation of East Jerusalem. That is very high and mighty of the board. How come they refuse to serve one market because of political pressure but continue to serve another. Like China where democracy doesn’t exist - you go to jail for advocating it - and where the Muslim (the Uyghurs) population are sent to “re-education camps” where women are sterilised and some are used as forced labour. The idiot press release from Unilever said; “ We believe it is inconsistent with our values for Ben and Jerry’s to be sold in the occupied Palestinian territory.” Those same values, I presume, are available in China. I haven’t looked at other countries run by dictators but I suspect you can buy your Ben and Jerry’s there. Like the rest of Israel’s neighbours in the Middle East. Israel is different from those Middle East countries. They are a democracy. Surely Unilever, quoted on the London Stock Exchange, should support such countries. Instead they look the other way if it's China but give a victory to little Israel’s enemies. Sickening isn’t it. Not sure how much Ben and Jerry’s is bought in the UK but I think we can do without it don’t you? PS If you plan to buy either car or home insurance I wonder if you might look at my small price comparison site A Spokesman Said as we earn a little commission from each sale which helps fund the research and editorial costs of running the site. It has the same offer as the big ones like Go Compare. Thank you.
