I have never been a fan of David Cameron. I disliked intensely the way he tried to cover up is his wealthy, upper middle class background. The situation he was born into was not his fault.

Don’t wallow in it but don’t try and pretend with a father who was a stockbroker and Chairman of the exclusive St James’s club Whites that you were born in a hole in the road.

His judgment was hopeless as proved by the Brexit vote. He had no idea how ordinary people felt.

Now, thanks to good work by the team at Panorama we learn that he pocketed £7.2million from the factoring business Greenshill Capital for just over two years work as the company imploded with debts running into billions.

Once again his judgment was tested and found wanting. The Serious Fraud Office is still investigating.

Surely alarm bells rang when Cameron saw the deal he was being offered. Around £700,000 a year for 25 days work and £3.2million in shares to be cashed at any time.

He was just a fig leaf. Probably had no idea, or any interest, in what the company was up to.

His reputation is in tatters. Let this be a warning to Boris who told Dominic Cummings that he would quit 18 months after winning another General Election so that he could “have some fun and make money.”

There are a lot of Lex Greenshills roaming around the City looking for mugs like a Cameron. Boris, beware.
