For God’s sake ignore Boris and do not rush out to buy a boiler. He’s gone quite mad

I will always be grateful to Boris Johnson for making Brexit real but frankly he has gone quite mad over climate change and signals a disconnect with the very people who voted for him.

We are told that all gas boilers - that’s 27 million of them - will be on the scrapheap within a decade.

And yet the experts say most flats and homes aren’t suitable for the boilers they have in mind. So what do those residents do; freeze to death.

Other ‘’experts’’ say hydrogen is the answer as we can use the same pipes and there will be a much smaller cost for a new boiler.

I don’t know what the solution is. More worryingly nor does Boris and his mates.

It is inexcusable to come to the ordinary woman and man and say here’s a bill for between £7,000-£18,000 but we don’t know if it’s really the long-term answer. And that money is just the beginning. Your taxes will go through the roof. We don’t all have rich mates to pay for the new wallpaper in the bedroom. 

So if Boris and Co don’t know what’s best for your place my serious advice is quite clear; You must not do anything.

So promise me no running out and buying a new boiler.  Just sit tight until somebody sensible says they have an answer which does not cost you next year’s pay.

As it is Cop 26 looks like a disaster.

No China (28% of global carbon emissions) won’t be there because they have a load of coal and if they stop digging it up the lights will go out which will be very bad news for President’s Xi’s ambitions for a third term.

Putin is not coming presumably concerned he will be arrested for conspiracy to murder.

India’s PM Modi (I really admire him) won’t be there as India needs all the carbon it can get it’s hands on as it moves from developed world status to first world.

Who can blame them? We have lived the industrial revolution for 250 years. They have had it for 60 years.

They want some of the West’s success. I don’t blame them.

France will turn up if only for Macron to smack Boris in the mouth. Mind you the good people of Glasgow have been smacking people in the mouth every Saturday night for decades.

I am sure that is what we will remember Cop26 for.
