The speed limit was 30mph in the suburban London street. Suddenly a motorbike doing between 75 and 80mph roared down the road. Out of control.
The driver was a Christopher Perry. I don’t know anything about this scumbag except that he was 40-years-old and in effect was using his motorbike as a missile.
Perry was over the alcohol limit and had traces of cannabis in his blood which would have acted as an accelerator to the drink.
The inevitable and tragic happened. Journalist Melissa van der Klugt, 34, had popped down to her local Sainsbury’s in Battersea, South west London, to pick up food.

Perry crashed into at the speed of a lunatic. She died almost instantly from her injuries which included fractures of her skull, ribs, femur, tibia and lacerations of the liver.
I know all this as there was an inquest at Westminster Coroner’s Court who were told that his alcohol level was at 108mg with the legal limit at 80mg.
For 10 years Melissa was a journalist at the Times but had quit so she pursue her dream of becoming a foreign correspondent in Asia and Africa.
Her mother Diana, paid tribute to her daughter and spoke of the unbearable pain of waking up each day without her.
And what happened to the scumbag Perry? He will never face justice as he died the following day from the crash injuries.

What concerns me is how many Perrys are there out there. Drunk, full of weed and literally want to kill themselves and anybody who gets in the way.
I hope if you read this tragic tale you will agree with that we should be tougher on drink/ drug drivers and those siren voices to legalise cannabis must be drowned out.
For the sake of Melissa if for nobody else.
