I am delighted to report that relations between Boris Johnson and President Macron are “appalling”.

I learn this from a fine piece of journalism by Oliver Wright, the policy editor of The Times.

Apparently diplomats have been attempting for months to arrange a high-level meeting between the two leaders.

But the French are refusing saying there is no point. I agree.

​Look at the reasons for the bad blood. First there was Brexit. We blew a hole in Macron’s big idea of a Euro defence force, a united currency and the UK being a supplicant to Brussels.

That then led to the fishing rights issue in Jersey when Macros said he would cut off power to Jersey.

​Next came cross-Channel migration where the idle and cunning French couldn’t give a damn about the boats heading from their beaches as it got rid of their problem.

​French were incensed by Boris talking up the success of the vaccine programme while Brussels was still negotiating. In turn Paris tried to talk down the efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Both London and Paris say there is more mistrust between the two sides than in any time in recent history.

I am delighted. The French have been our natural enemies for a 1,000 years. We are an island, warrior nation full of start up business types.

​The French are a Statist organisation addicted to higher taxes and rather dark flats. The southern half of France helped the Nazis in the Second World War. That’s the kind of people they are.

We do not want a summit. We have nothing to say to each other. Keep the war going. For Paris read Brussels.
