The difference for Hancock is that he makes the laws. And on that basis he had to go. I am nothing on the hypocrisy scale compared with Beth Rigby, political editor of Sky News and Kay Burley the channel’s breakfast show presenter. How can they express the fury of their viewers having been suspended by their station for going out drinking during the lockdown. It’s not possible and therefore what is the point of them being on the payroll. Having been around these scandals for decades (and had I been asked) I would have advised that Hancock should have quit within hours of receiving the call from The Sun on Thursday night saying they had a photo of him kissing and fondling a lady who was not his missus. Had he done that the story would have lasted less than 24 hours but by dragging Boris into it the public humiliation was so much longer and so much greater. I fear that this is only the beginning of Hancock’s problems. He has to deal with the significant domestic fallout. I thought it bizarre he woke up his eight-year-old on the Thursday night to tell the child he was no longer going to live with mum. Why wake the child up? What could that possibly achieve? Does anybody believe that he only started the affair with mother-of-three Gina Coladangelo six weeks ago. The Sunday Times helpfully published a series of photos of them together since 2019.
When will the husband of Mrs Coladangelo give his view? When will the very decent Martha Hancock give hers? What about the suggestion that thanks to their friendship one of his chums landed a massive PPE contract. Now he is not a minister he will be thrown to the wolves. I also think because of the nature of his exit from government his political career is over. There will be no Javid-style comeback for him. Further he could do himself a favour and a good number of his constituents in West Suffolk if he stood down as MP. Then let’s see if Gina hangs around. I have my doubts. PS If you plan to buy either car or home insurance I wonder if you might look at my small price comparison site A Spokesman Said as we earn a little commission from each sale which helps und the research and editorial costs of running the site. It has the same offer as the big ones like Go Compare. Thank you. READ MORE: Click here to read more articles from Kelvin MacKenzie
