Sometimes the oppression of women in Muslim states makes you weep. For the last 20 years there has been hope in Afghanistan. Although deeply conservative the lot of girls and women had improved thanks to the protection that British and US forces gave them.

Now they are gone and the madman of the Taliban are rapidly regaining a grip.

In each territory they take over the Taliban insist that the following happens;

• Girls are banned from school and university.
• Teenage girls are forced to marry Taliban fighters.
• Women must wear burkhas if they leave home.
• Women can only leave home if escorted by a male companion.

Girls had accounted for 3.8million of the 9million schoolchildren. Almost 100,000 of its 300,000 university students were women.

Women make up 28% of Parliament and in 2019 women reached 22% of the workforce. Not much but higher than Jordan. All this progress will now end with these madmen in charge.

Already hundreds of women in prominent positions have been murdered by Taliban killer squads.

There’s not a word from feminist organisations in this country speaking up for the women of Afghanistan . Could it be that they prefer to turn a blind eye to the oppression of women rather than being seen to attack Muslims. Please say.
