​Watching the Muslim community using its political power in Batley and Spens makes uncomfortable viewing.

They first showed their muscle when a teacher- described as a “good Yorkshire lad”- gave an RE lesson when he talked to his class about what blasphemy meant.

After all we don’t have those laws in our country. We can say what we like about our God without consequence. That is not true about Islam.

So he showed a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammad. A pupil went home told his parents who got a group of Muslims together and protested outside the school.

In turn the idiot head teacher suspended the teacher who fearing for his life and that of his family fled their home for a secret hideout and is still there today some 10 weeks ago.

​An inquiry cleared the teacher of doing anything wrong but he now doesn’t want to come back to the school. Who could blame him?

With that “success”  behind them they have turned on Kim Leadbeater who is standing for Labour in Thursday’s by-election.

Ms Leadbeater told how she felt “extremely intimidated” after a group of men outside a mosque hounded her for her views on LGBT education.

​Now Ms Leadbeater does not keep it a secret that she is gay and not should she. Nor should she face men trailing her in the area saying things like;” We are going to chase Labour at every step.”

My feeling is that if the 8,600 Muslim voters in Batley desert Labour for George Galloway’s Palestinian supporting party on Thursday you will see more examples of muslim muscle come elections in Bradford, Blackburn etc.

Politically the Muslim vote doesn’t matter much today but with their birth rate double the national average it will be powerful in a decade or so. Watch this space.
