Three cheers for little old Switzerland for standing up to the bullies of Brussels.

For thirteen long years the EU and Swiss have been trying to negotiate a deal to replace a very flimsy arrangement basically drawn up on the back of a cigarette packet in the 1970s.

But its broken down really for the same reason that we voted Brexit; the free movement of labour.

​Von de Leyen and her crew insisted that EU citizens must have freedom of movement across the Swiss border receiving social security rights.

The Swiss said that such a decision would never pass a referendum in their country. The decision to walk away, which I celebrate, puts in peril £200billion of mutual trade.

Switzerland will now have “third country” status like the UK meaning it loses certain privileges and will have to put up with more red tape.
