Pride of place in my kitchen is a huge artwork of that famous Dominic Cummings photo of him leaving No.10 last November with a cardboard box full of his effects. It’s a brilliant piece of work by my friend the artist Jo Madden. In the light of Boris Johnson fingering Cummings for leaking the Dyson texts I fear that the picture may now be worthless. David Cameron described him as a career-ending psycho. That may be true but he did understand one thing Cameron ever got; that this country wanted out of the EU. Imagine if Cameron understood that he may not have had to send begging notes to the Chancellor on behalf of his paymasters, the bankrupt Greenshill Capital. It was such a shame that Cummings lost his power Battle in Downing Street, with among others Boris’s lady friend Carrie, and had to leave. But it is quite wrong, if proved, that he should be responsible for the discomfort he caused to the Prime Minister by leaking to the BBC those texts showing that he swapped text with Sir James Dyson.
There is nothing wrong with those texts. Sir James wanted to make sure that if he made the desperately needed covid ventilators his employees who came to this country from their HQ in Singapore would not face an increased tax burden. In the event the ventilators weren’t needed and the Dyson company lost £20million due to prioritising the work over their commercial orders. That was very good of Sir James and Labour’s attacks on him are a disgrace and one of the reasons they are so far behind in the polls. The ordinary man and woman in this country prefers Whatsapp government to committee government. Its how they run their own lives. That having been said I do not approve of Cummings getting his own back at Boris who kicked him out as special adviser. Grateful for a period of silence. It doesn’t help being angry all the time. It will ruin his legacy. READ MORE: Click here to read more articles from Kelvin MacKenzie
